About Yerevan
The capital city of Armenia Yerevan is situated in the central-west part of the country, nearby the Turkish border and has the perfect position on the foot of Ararat Mountain almost 1000 meters of altitude above the sea level.
The Armenian capital, so-called “Red city”, because of color of the stones, is famous as an industrial, cultural and scientific center between the cities of Caucasus.
As a cultural center Yerevan presented by The State University of Yerevan, founded in the 1920, Armenian Academy of Science, interesting museums, numerous public libraries, theaters, Conservatory, and different Technical Institutes.
Yerevan of nowadays descends from the ancient military fortress of VII century B.C., which had a strategic importance as a main land-based connection road with India.
Turned into the capital of Armenia in VII century B.C. Yeevan, during its history appeared as an object of struggles between Persia and Ottoman Empire.
In the past century Armenia was conquered by the soviet regime and after its collapse, Yerevan became the capital of the Republic of Armenia from 1991.
The center of the city enriched by the numerous monuments, historical edifices’, museums, parks and botanical gardens, attracts by its fascination and steams to visit it with bated breath just in one day.

In the surrounding of the city are presented such a tremendous historical monuments as an Etchmiadzin Cathedral, where take the place the head quarter of Armenian Orthodox Church, Hellenistic Temple of Garni, newly restored Monastery of Khor Virap – the popular place of pilgrimage and Monastery of Gerhard.
